What’s on My Bench? Conn 62H Trombone

Today’s awesome horn is a Conn 62H trombone, and it was a lot of fun to work on! Serial number dates this one at 1970, and it still has a lot of years of play time left in it. This is a very unusual horn in that the main tuning mechanism is in the handslide instead of the bell. It was stuck and had a small dent, so I had some delicate work to do. It came out beautifully with no issues, so the tuning mechanism works smoothly and the handslide does as well. Someone had painted the rotor caps...

What's on My Bench? 3 MLP LA Benge Trumpet

Our horns come from all over, so most of the time I don’t know much about their history. This horn is different, though, as I gig with its previous owner quite regularly! I recently helped him with the purchase of a new Jupiter XO 1600i Ingram model, and he decided he didn’t need to keep this one. Here we have a 3 MLP LA Benge, serial dates it to 1980-81. It doesn’t show a lot of wear for a horn of this age - though it’s been played a lot, it has also been well cared for. All it needed...

What's on My Bench? Hohner Ozzy Osbourne Harmonica

We’ve been super busy here at the igloo receiving a bunch of new gear from Yamaha and Conn-Selmer, but my favorite thing is what I found waiting for me from KHS! Our KHS rep Ben St. John, who helps us with our fabulous selection of Jupiter instruments, told us they had these harmonicas in stock... and I wanted one! He was kind enough to have one sent to me, and I just love it!! Thanks, Ben!! It has a spot of honor above my bench!! Wishing you some wonderful surprises that brighten your day! #AmandasBench

Things We Find in Cases: Musical Memories

In this particular instance there is no case for the instrument, but this horn came with something very sweet. This is a Martin flugelhorn from 1919, and it is in quite good shape for its age! It has lovely engraving, including USMC, showing that it was originally a U S Marine Corps horn. As a retired Navy musician, I have a lot of Marine musician friends - they do some fabulous work, and it was fun when we got to work together. Unfortunately, we don’t know how this horn plays because it’s missing its main tuning slide, but we do...

What's on My Bench? 1967 Getzen Eterna Severinson Model Trumpet

Today’s horn may not be much to look at, but it sure is an awesome player! This is a 1967 Getzen Eterna Severinson Model, and if you’re a trumpet player, you probably know a bunch of people that really love these horns.  They are light and responsive, with those fast Getzen valves that survive so well over the years; this is a great horn for Jazz and Commercial playing. This horn has a lot of wear to the lacquer finish, but it’s in great shape otherwise and has lots of years of playing left in it. Love it as is, get...
