What’s on My Bench? A 1947 Sterling Bell Reynolds Trumpet!

Hey, brass fans! I recently finished this fantastic horn, and thought you all might like to see some before and after photos. This is the third of this model that I’ve had cross my bench, and they are just as fun to play as they are to look at - so much, in fact, that I ended up buying one of them myself during my first couple of weeks of working at the Igloo. I’ll include some twinsies photos with mine, but mine is not for sale! As you can see from the photos, this horn came to us in...

What’s on My Bench? A Burbank Benge C Trumpet!

Lately I’ve been spending most of my time going through new stock, so what a pleasure it was to work on this baby! All this horn needed to be ready to play was a clean and some minor dent work. Sometimes these older C trumpets are not great players, especially if they have significant wear. This one, while the pistons are worn, still plays extremely well! It’s actually a really fabulous player - great intonation, beautiful sound, and plays very easily throughout the entire range with no weird spots. It has a much lighter sound with a bit more sparkle...

What’s on My Bench? A 1976 Schilke B3!

Welcome back to my home bench, where I had the pleasure of working on this little beauty! This horn came to us with some bell damage, but other than that all it needed was a clean and polish. The bell is nice and straight now, and though it does show signs of repair, it’s in excellent playing condition! Compression is good with Berp #2 oil, and it really is a fantastic player. Though it is a large bore and a free-blowing horn, thanks to Schilke’s step bore it doesn’t feel like a typical large bore horn. With a heavy all...

What’s on My Bench? A Spectacular Adams A1 Trumpet!

Why am I extra excited about this particular trumpet? Because it’s the same model I’ve played every day for the last 7 years! The biggest difference between this one and my own is that it has a lighter bell than mine, and mine has thousands of hours of play time! I thought it would be fun to share a few photos of these twins together for a few reasons, one being that they are just beautiful in that satin gold lacquer!   In these photos, mine is on the left while the one on the right is up for sale....

What’s On my Bench? A Conn 4B Bass Trumpet!

What’s On my Bench? A Conn 4B Bass Trumpet!

Check out this super fun horn that wandered in! This is probably the fourth bass trumpet to cross my bench since I started working here at the igloo, and also one of the nicer ones! It had obviously been sitting for a while and had been put away pretty dirty, but unfortunately that tends to be the case with horns like this that don’t get used as much. Everything was stuck except the pistons, but now all slides and caps are free, clean, and moving properly. It’s a very attractive instrument but has had some work done in its past....
