Who the Protégé Professional Clarinet Is For
The Backun Protégé Professional Clarinet is a grenadilla-wood Bb clarinet designed for serious students, educators, and advancing players who want professional materials and a high level of finishing without moving into fully custom pricing. Its poly-cylindrical bore and undercut tone holes support a centered core sound, even scale, and reliable response, making it appropriate for collegiate ensembles, lessons, pit work, and daily teaching use.
What distinguishes the Protégé in its category is the combination of premium, unstained grenadilla wood, pro-level keywork and plating, and Backun components including the New Traditional barrel and Backun bell. For players upgrading from an intermediate clarinet, it offers a clear path into more refined articulation, better pitch stability, and a more nuanced dynamic range.
Common Questions About The Backun Protégé

What does “unstained, naturally-aged grenadilla” mean for sound and feel?
