The GAIA uses a True Large Chamber, like most vintage soprano mouthpieces made in the first half of last century. However, those mouthpieces combined a large chamber with a low baffle and floor configuration, which made good classical mouthpieces, but never really worked for contemporary playing. The GAIA’s unique design opens up a whole new world for the soprano saxophone. It maintains the ‘vintage’ beauty of sound, but adds depth and versatility never before possible. The GAIA uses the finest vintage style hard rubber on the planet! The 'Special Edition Dark' mouthpieces were created after requests from a few notable players, like Jan Garbarek, for Theo to make a darker soprano piece. While eventually the AMBIKA would be created, these GAIAs were done as a sort of transitional model between the two. It’s not quite as dark as the AMBIKA, and not as bright as the GAIA. All were inspected and hand-faced directly by Theo himself. Limited production.

This item has been used as a display/demo model but has never been privately owned. It is in excellent condition as shown.
