A. Robert Oboe, Triébert Système 4

This magnificent A. Robert oboe, constructed in Paris, represents a fine example of the early 20th-century French woodwind craftsmanship. Utilizing the renowned Triébert Système 4, this instrument epitomizes the elegance and precision for which Parisian woodwind makers were celebrated. Made approximately in the early 20th century, this oboe offers a glimpse into the historically significant design transitions within wind instrument development.

Significant Design Features

The oboe showcases the Triébert Système 4, a key innovation that advanced the playability and tonal precision of oboes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Constructed predominantly from grenadilla wood, highly prized for its dense and resonant qualities, this instrument includes finely crafted nickel silver keywork. These materials were commonly utilized by French makers of the period to ensure both aesthetic appeal and mechanical functionality.

Historical Context

During this era, A. Robert was recognized for contributing significantly to advancing oboe design, aligning with the broader trends in France towards more sophisticated and modernized woodwind instruments. The Triébert system introduced by them marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of oboes, enhancing ergonomic and acoustic characteristics that became widely adopted by makers across Europe.

Condition Report

This instrument, although not assessed for playability, stands as a testament to its era's craftsmanship, maintaining structural integrity with no major cracks or splits noted in the wood. The keywork shows average wear typical of an item of this age, with some tarnishing, yet remains intact and appropriately aligned. This piece holds value for collectors, woodwind researchers, museums, and academic institutions dedicated to the study of musical instrument evolution. It is a worthy acquisition for those interested in the rich history of acoustic craftsmanship and early 20th-century innovation.

As this instrument is historically interesting, we have chosen to not do restoration work on it and leave that to the eventual owner. Instrument will need pad and keywork to be playable.
