Triebert Oboe - Circa 1840

This historic oboe, crafted by the esteemed French maker Triebert, hails from the pre-1840 period, a testament to the rich evolution of woodwind manufacturing in the 19th century. This oboe, constructed from fine boxwood, features elegant key mounts fashioned from brass and ivory, signifying the luxury materials and meticulous handcrafting associated with the era.

Design and Features

The instrument exhibits the 'Simple systeme, bulbe' design, which is instrumental in understanding the transition between baroque and more modern oboe systems. This design showcases traditional craftsmanship from a period when the precision of instrument making was reaching new heights.

Historical Significance

The Triebert family was pivotal in the development of the modern oboe, with designs that significantly influenced later French and international woodwind instrument models. This piece provides insight into the practices and materials of the early 19th century, contributing to our understanding of the era's technical and aesthetic developments.

Condition Report

The oboe survives as a well-preserved artifact of its time. The condition reflects its age, with typical wear appropriate to an instrument of such antiquity. As an historical artifact, it maintains considerable educational and display value rather than being a functional musical instrument. This item is offered exclusively as a historical artifact and is not guaranteed for playability. It is ideally suited for collectors, researchers, museums, and academic institutions with an interest in historical instrument development.

As this instrument is historically interesting, we have chosen to not do restoration work on it and leave that to the eventual owner. Instrument will need pad and keywork to be playable.
