Condition & Setup
Condition: This item has been professionally inspected, set up, and play-tested to confirm proper mechanical function and fit with a compatible A clarinet upper joint.
Who the Basset Lower Joint for A Clarinet Is For
This is a basset-extension lower joint and bell that converts a compatible A clarinet into a basset clarinet by replacing the standard lower joint and bell. It is for clarinetists who need the extended low range to C for repertoire that specifically calls for basset clarinet (including orchestral and opera parts), and for professionals looking to achieve basset-clarinet capability without purchasing a dedicated full instrument.
Compared with standard A clarinet lower joints, this assembly adds the additional low notes with matching keywork integration, while the cocobolo construction supports a focused, complex core typical of dense hardwood clarinets. Fit and response depend on compatibility with the specific A clarinet upper joint and barrel setup.
Common Questions About The Backun Basset Lower Joint for A Clarinet
Does this make my A clarinet into a basset clarinet?
Yes. When installed with a compatible A clarinet upper joint, this lower joint and bell extend the instrument’s range down to low C, which is the defining range requirement for basset clarinet parts.
Will it fit any A clarinet?
Not necessarily. Conversion lower joints must match tenon dimensions, bore relationship, and keywork interface of the upper joint. Confirm compatibility with your exact clarinet make and model before purchase. However, it should be widely compatible with most professional instruments.
Is this suitable for professional orchestral use?
Yes, it is designed for professional use where low-C basset clarinet range is required, provided it is properly fitted and regulated with your A clarinet upper joint.
