Who the Beta Bb Clarinet Is For

The Backun Beta Bb clarinet is a wooden step-up clarinet built for intermediate players who want a reliable transition from plastic to grenadilla wood. The naturally-aged grenadilla body supports a warm, centered core with clear articulation, while the poly-cylindrical bore helps stabilize scale and intonation through throat tones and the upper register.

This model suits advancing students, adult returners, and ensemble musicians who prefer a touch of controlled resistance for secure soft playing, smoother slurs, and cleaner interval changes. The combination of hardened keywork and water-resistant black leather pads is especially practical for frequent rehearsals, school-to-ensemble schedules, and changing humidity where consistent sealing and predictable response matter.

Common Questions About The Backun Beta

Is the Backun Beta a good upgrade from a plastic student clarinet?

Yes. The Beta is designed as a step-up wooden Bb clarinet, giving players the feel and tonal center of grenadilla wood while supporting stable response and consistent intonation with its poly-cylindrical bore.

How do the black leather pads compare to standard pads?

The Beta’s custom black leather pads are water resistant, which can help maintain sealing stability in changing humidity and keep response more consistent during long rehearsals and frequent playing.

Does the Backun Beta support a neck strap?

Yes. The adjustable thumb rest includes an integrated neck strap ring that works with most clarinet neck straps (strap not included).
