Yamaha YTS-480 Tenor Saxophone
A Yamaha YTS-480 is an intermediate Bb tenor saxophone designed to deliver Yamaha’s consistent intonation, centered tone, and reliable keywork in a step-up instrument. The YTS-480 sits between student and professional tenor saxophones, making it a practical choice for advancing players who need confident response and stable pitch across the full range. This example features Yamaha’s annealed neck based on the original 62 design for a familiar, flexible feel. Its gold baked epoxy lacquer finish and yellow brass construction provide the classic tenor saxophone sound profile with a clear, focused core.
In performance, the YTS-480 offers quick articulation and even scale response, supported by drawn tone holes and waterproof pads with plastic tone boosters for dependable sealing and projection. The front F and high F# keys expand facility in contemporary repertoire and make upper-register passages more accessible for players moving into more demanding literature. Yamaha’s ergonomic key layout, stainless steel springs, and adjustable thumb hook support long rehearsals and consistent technique in concert band, jazz ensemble, pit orchestra, and studio practice settings. The annealed 62-style neck contributes to a responsive, resonant blow that suits both classical clarity and jazz warmth depending on mouthpiece and reed choice. Ideal for advancing students, serious adult learners, and doublers who want a dependable tenor for regular rehearsals, lessons, and gigging.
