Who the R13 Clarinet Is For
The Buffet Crampon R13 clarinet in D is a professional auxiliary soprano clarinet intended for players who need accurate pitch and clean articulation in D clarinet repertoire. It is best suited to orchestral musicians, doublers, and specialists performing classical and early-romantic works, as well as modern scores that call specifically for D clarinet to simplify execution in sharp keys. Within Buffet’s lineup, the R13 is the company’s widely recognized professional platform; in D, it becomes a rare, purpose-built solution for repertoire where using a Bb clarinet would add unnecessary technical complexity.
Common Questions About The Buffet Crampon R13
Is this an Eb clarinet?
No. This is a D soprano clarinet. D clarinets are less common than Eb, but they are a standard auxiliary instrument for specific orchestral and historical repertoire written for D.
What is the practical advantage of a D clarinet?
A D clarinet lets you play parts written in sharp key signatures with more direct fingerings and fewer awkward transpositions than using a, Eb clarinet, which can improve clarity and reduce technical risk in exposed passages.
What Backun parts are included with this clarinet?
This instrument includes two Backun bells and four Backun barrels, allowing you to choose setups that best match your preferred response, projection, and tuning approach with your mouthpiece and reed setup.
