Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet SN 51580/533608 FRESH OVERHAUL
Buffet Crampon R13 Bb Clarinet Overview
The Buffet Crampon R13 is a professional Bb clarinet designed for orchestral, chamber, and solo performance where a centered tone and reliable intonation are required. As Buffet’s long-running flagship clarinet, the R13 is widely chosen for its focused core, clear articulation, and consistent response across registers. This vintage example has been fully overhauled and play-tested in our shop, making it a practical option for players who want the established R13 feel without the cost of a new instrument. The grenadilla wood body shows no cracks or repaired cracks, which is a key consideration when selecting a professional wooden clarinet.
In use, the R13 is known for a stable, centered sound that projects cleanly in an ensemble while still allowing a wide range of colors for solo repertoire. Response is quick in the throat tones and clarion register, with an even scale that supports confident pitch placement in section playing and chamber settings. The Boehm mechanism layout is familiar and ergonomic for most professional and advancing players, and this instrument’s fresh overhaul (new pads and corks, regulation, and play-test) supports quiet keywork and dependable sealing. Vintage R13 instruments are often sought for value and longevity, and if a grenadilla body has remained crack-free over decades, it is generally less of an unknown than a brand-new wooden clarinet. Ideal for orchestral professionals, serious college players, advanced students preparing for auditions, and doublers needing a dependable main Bb clarinet.
