Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet SN 85179
Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet Overview
The Buffet Crampon R13 is Buffet’s long-running flagship professional Bb clarinet model, widely chosen for orchestral, chamber, and solo playing. This vintage example (circa 1967) has just received a complete overhaul in our shop and has been professionally serviced, set up, and play-tested for performance use. For many players seeking an R13, a well-preserved vintage instrument is a practical way to access the model at a lower cost than current production, with the added benefit that stable, older grenadilla wood is less likely to develop new cracks if it has remained crack-free over decades.

Who the R13 Professional Bb Clarinet Is For
The Buffet Crampon R13 is a professional Bb clarinet designed for players who need a traditional French clarinet sound and reliable response across the full range of the instrument. It is commonly selected by advanced students, conservatory players, and working professionals who want a clarinet that supports nuanced dynamics, centered articulation, and consistent intonation in ensemble and solo settings.
Within Buffet’s lineup, the R13 is a reference-point model: a standard choice in orchestral sections and studios because it balances clarity and warmth while retaining the focused projection needed in larger halls. A crack-free vintage R13 can be an especially sensible option for buyers who want the R13 platform at a lower cost than new production while choosing an instrument whose wood has already demonstrated long-term stability.
