F. Loree Oboe - Antique Woodwind - HISTORIC COLLECTION
Lorée Oboe - Historic Artifact
Dating from the 19th to early 20th century, this exquisite Lorée oboe exemplifies the craftsmanship of one of the most revered makers of woodwind instruments. This instrument, marked with the serial number NN34, although not dated precisely is from a period when Lorée was pioneering advancements in oboe design that are foundational to the modern instruments.
Design Features
The oboe is constructed from the finest grenadilla wood, known for its durability and sonorous quality. The inclusion of the intricate keywork typical of Lorée's designs during this era is evident, made from high-grade alloys that subtly resist tarnishing over time. The craftsmanship of the bore and tone hole placement reveals attention to acoustic precision, although its current state is intended for display and study, rather than performance.
Condition Report
This historic oboe, while structurally intact, shows signs of age typical for a museum-grade artifact. The wood exhibits a naturally aged patina, and the metal components show oxidation in line with its age. It stands as a testament to the ingenuity and skill of its maker, though it is not guaranteed to be playable. Ideal for collectors, researchers, museums, and academic institutions, this Lorée oboe offers a profound glimpse into the evolution of oboe design and construction techniques that have shaped the today's standards. A true collector's piece that bridges musical heritage and historical study.
As this instrument is historically interesting, we have chosen to not do restoration work on it and leave that to the eventual owner. Instrument will need pad and keywork to be playable.
