Who the CW 'Colin Williams' Tenor Trombone Bell Is For

The CW Colin Williams Tenor Trombone Bell is a professional-grade bell option for players who want a Shires-style orchestral tenor trombone response with a clear core and efficient projection. It is designed for serious students, conservatory players, and working professionals assembling or refining a Shires tenor trombone setup where bell taper, weight, and bead construction are used to fine-tune articulation, color, and feedback.

This model’s defining build details are the hand-hammered TI taper in lightweight yellow brass, the traditionally brazed seams, and the unsoldered bead, with the flare thinned toward the edge. In practical terms, these features support quick response and nuanced dynamic control while keeping the sound focused, making it a strong match for classical section work, solo repertoire, and audition preparation.

Common Questions About The S.E. Shires CW 'Colin Williams'

Is this a complete trombone or just the bell?

This listing is for the tenor trombone bell only. It is intended to be paired with a compatible S.E. Shires slide and valve section (if applicable) as part of a modular Shires setup.

What does an unsoldered bead change for the player?

An unsoldered bead typically increases bell vibration and feedback to the player. Many players experience a more responsive feel and a broader palette of colors, while maintaining a clear center to the sound when paired with an appropriate taper and weight.

Will this fit my trombone?

It is built for S.E. Shires tenor trombone configurations that accept an 8.5-inch Shires bell with the Colin Williams TI taper. If you are pairing it with a non-Shires instrument or an older/custom receiver spec, contact us with your current bell and section details so we can confirm compatibility.
