Who the Model 62J Series III Alto Saxophone Is For

The Selmer Paris Model 62J Series III Alto Saxophone is a professional classical alto saxophone designed for players who need quick response, precise ergonomics, and a warm, focused tone. It is well suited to conservatory study, orchestral saxophone parts, wind ensemble, chamber music, and solo classical repertoire where clarity of articulation and consistent intonation matter.

Within Selmer Paris’s lineup, the Series III is known for its compact, close-to-the-body key layout and a feel that supports fast technical playing. The higher copper-content brass platform contributes to a naturally warm tonal center from the first breath, while modern features like high F sharp, front F, and the C sharp vent help with facility and pitch stability in contemporary classical performance demands.

Common Questions About The Selmer Paris Model 62J Series III

Is the Selmer Paris Series III Model 62J suitable for professional classical playing?

Yes. The Series III alto is widely used in classical settings because it prioritizes centered tone, reliable intonation, and fast response, with ergonomic keywork designed for technical repertoire.

What does the high F sharp key and front F key add in practical use?

The high F sharp key extends the standard range and can simplify certain altissimo-adjacent fingerings, while the front F key provides an alternate F fingering that improves facility in fast passages and common technical patterns.
