Project Horns at The Mighty Quinn Brass and Winds

We restore hundreds of instruments every year, but our repair shop has limited capacity. Rather than allowing every interesting instrument to wait months or years for restoration, we occasionally offer selected instruments as Project Horns. This gives collectors, repair technicians, and adventurous musicians the opportunity to own and restore exceptional instruments while allowing us to focus our shop resources on our fully serviced inventory. These are instruments that we found, purchased, and meant to overhaul... but have never touched. 

Do you fancy a project? These are the horns for you. These are not being sold as playable instruments. The expectation is that these horns will require a full resotration in order to be useable.

What is a Project Horn?

A Project Horn is an instrument that has not yet been restored or fully serviced. These instruments are sold in as-is condition and may require anything from a routine cleaning to a complete mechanical overhaul before they are ready to play. They are ideal for technicians, restoration enthusiasts, collectors, and musicians looking for an opportunity to bring a great instrument back to life.

Who should buy a Project Horn?

Project Horns are best suited for customers who have experience evaluating vintage instruments, have access to a qualified repair technician, or are looking for a restoration project. If you're looking for an instrument that is ready to play immediately, we recommend browsing our serviced used instruments instead.

How do I know what work the instrument needs?

We do our best to provide an honest assessment of each instrument's condition based on our inspection. However, because these instruments have not undergone a complete overhaul, additional issues may be discovered during restoration. We encourage buyers to budget accordingly.

Are Project Horns playable?

Some may be partially playable, while others may not produce a sound at all. Unless specifically stated in the listing, Project Horns are not performance-ready.

Do Project Horns include a warranty?

No. Because these instruments are sold prior to restoration, Project Horns are offered as-is and do not include the warranty that accompanies our serviced used instruments. Our standard two-year warranty applies only to instruments that have been fully serviced in our repair shop.

Are all of the parts included?

Unless otherwise noted, the instrument is sold exactly as pictured. Please review the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. If you have questions about missing parts or condition, we're happy to help before you purchase.

Are Project Horns returnable?

Because these instruments are sold for restoration, we encourage customers to ask any questions they may have before placing an order.
