Common Questions About the Backun Alpha
What does the low C range add for a bass clarinetist?
A low C bass clarinet extends a major third below the low Eb found on shorter-range instruments. This provides access to parts commonly encountered in contemporary wind ensemble, orchestral, chamber, and pit repertoire without transposition or octave displacement.
How does the Alpha relate to Backun's Q Series bass clarinet?
The Alpha shares design concepts with Backun's Q Series platform but uses a durable synthetic body and is positioned for advancing players and educational settings. The Q Series occupies Backun's professional bass clarinet category and uses premium wood bodies.
What are the practical benefits of an ABS body?
ABS synthetic material is less sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity than a wood body. That stability makes the Alpha a practical choice for frequent rehearsals, school programs, travel, and outdoor performances.
