Common Questions About the Backun Alpha
How does the low C extension affect repertoire?
The low C mechanism extends the written range below low Eb, giving the player access to low D, Db, and C. This supports parts that use the modern bass clarinet's complete lower register.
How does the Alpha relate to the Backun Q Series?
The Alpha shares the Q Series acoustical platform but is configured as a student instrument with a durable synthetic body. The Q Series occupies Backun's professional bass clarinet range and uses different materials and appointments.
Why might a school choose nickel-plated keywork?
Nickel-plated keywork offers a durable surface suited to frequent school and ensemble use. Players accustomed to silver-plated mechanisms may notice a different surface feel under the fingers.
