Backun Alpha Bb Clarinet Overview
The Backun Alpha is a student Bb clarinet designed to bring Backun's clarinet-making approach to a durable, lightweight synthetic instrument. Its resistance to weather-related changes makes it a practical choice for school programs, concert band, marching band, and rental fleets, while the BCLBALPHA-SKE configuration provides silver-plated keywork and a left-hand Eb key.

Who the Alpha Bb Clarinet Is For
The Alpha is intended for beginning and developing clarinetists who need a dependable instrument for lessons, school ensembles, concert band, and marching applications. Its lightweight synthetic construction is particularly useful where frequent transport, outdoor performance, and changing temperature or humidity make a wood clarinet less practical. The left-hand Eb key also provides an additional fingering option as the player encounters more advanced technique.
Common Questions About the Backun Alpha
How does the synthetic body affect everyday use?
The synthetic body is resistant to cracking and requires less humidity management than grenadilla. This makes the Alpha well suited to school use, frequent transportation, and outdoor performance.
What is the purpose of the left-hand Eb key?
The left-hand Eb key provides an alternate fingering for Eb and Ab. It can simplify certain passages and reduce awkward hand movement in more advanced repertoire.
Where does the Alpha sit in Backun's clarinet lineup?
The Alpha is Backun's synthetic student clarinet. The Alpha Plus and Beta move into grenadilla construction for players seeking a wooden instrument as they advance.
