Brannen-Cooper Concert Flute #1
The FIRST! This Brannen-Cooper flute with serial number 1 is a professional C flute featuring a 14k gold body and headjoint with a solid silver mechanism and toneholes. It is designed for advanced and professional flutists who need a highly responsive instrument with a nuanced, color-rich sound and reliable keywork. With inline G and a C foot, it offers a familiar, traditional setup favored by many orchestral and solo players. As the first flute built by Bickford Brannen and Albert Cooper, it represents the origin point of the Brannen-Cooper workshop’s modern legacy and is best suited to players who value historic provenance alongside top-tier performance specifications. The very first instrument with the Brannen-Cooper scale, this flute highly influenced the scales of all other modern Boston flute makers.
In performance, the 14k gold construction supports a strong fundamental with complex overtones, giving the player usable warmth and breadth without sacrificing clarity at distance. The solid silver mechanism is built for fast, clean response and stable regulation, supporting confident articulation in orchestral passages and precise control in chamber and studio work. Inline G and C foot provide a straightforward, traditional feel for players who prefer classic ergonomics and consistent balance in the hands. This flute is an ideal fit for orchestral professionals, principal/piccolo-doubling flutists seeking a distinctive main instrument, recording artists who require tonal color on command, and conservatory-to-professional players who prioritize response, projection, and craftsmanship in equal measure.
