Condition & Setup

Excellent condition with little evidence of use. The instrument presents as essentially unplayed, with at most minor handling evidence such as a fingerprint on keywork. Notable detail: this instrument has an E and F correction mechanism, which is not a standard feature on the Toscas. This mechanism opens vents to correct intonation on those notoriously difficult-to-tune notes. Please contact us if you would like confirmation of its function and configuration. This clarinet has been professionally inspected, serviced as needed, and play-tested by our shop prior to sale.

Common Questions About The Buffet Crampon Tosca

Is the Buffet Crampon Tosca suitable for professional orchestra and conservatory use?

Yes. The Tosca is a professional-grade Bb clarinet designed for advanced study and professional performance, with design goals centered on response, intonation stability, and ergonomic keywork.

How does the Buffet Tosca clarinet differ from the R13?

The Buffet Crampon Tosca clarinet represents a refined evolution of the legendary Buffet Crampon R13, building on the R13’s iconic bore design while incorporating modern acoustic and ergonomic enhancements. While the R13 has long been the benchmark professional clarinet—valued for its warm, balanced tone and remarkable versatility—the Tosca is designed for players seeking a darker, more centered sound with added depth and projection. The Tosca features carefully reworked tone holes, a refined bore profile, and enhanced key ergonomics that promote smoother technical facility and greater comfort. Many models also include a low-F correction key for improved tuning stability in the upper register. In short, the R13 remains a timeless, flexible professional standard, while the Tosca offers a more focused, resonant tonal core and contemporary refinements favored by today’s orchestral and solo clarinetists.

What is the extra/custom key on the bell?

The extra keywork is for an E and F correction mechanism. While not a standard feature on the Tosca line, this mechansim allows for the correction of intonation on these two difficult-to-tune notes.
