Common Questions About The JJ Babbitt C*
What does C* mean on an alto sax mouthpiece?
C* refers to the mouthpiece facing designation used to indicate its tip opening and facing setup. A C* is widely used as a balanced, all-around option that supports controlled tone and comfortable playability for many players.
Is a plastic alto sax mouthpiece suitable for serious playing?
Yes. A well-made plastic mouthpiece can be a reliable daily-use option, especially for students, doubling players, and anyone needing a consistent, practical mouthpiece for rehearsals, teaching, travel, or as a backup.
What reeds and ligature should I use with this mouthpiece?
This mouthpiece fits standard alto saxophone ligatures. Reed strength depends on embouchure and style; many players start in the middle strengths and adjust for response and resistance. If you share your current reed and ligature, we can help suggest a good match.
