What's on My Bench? Hohner Ozzy Osbourne Harmonica

We’ve been super busy here at the igloo receiving a bunch of new gear from Yamaha and Conn-Selmer, but my favorite thing is what I found waiting for me from KHS! Our KHS rep Ben St. John, who helps us with our fabulous selection of Jupiter instruments, told us they had these harmonicas in stock... and I wanted one! He was kind enough to have one sent to me, and I just love it!! Thanks, Ben!! It has a spot of honor above my bench!! Wishing you some wonderful surprises that brighten your day! #AmandasBench

Things We Find in Cases: Musical Memories

In this particular instance there is no case for the instrument, but this horn came with something very sweet. This is a Martin flugelhorn from 1919, and it is in quite good shape for its age! It has lovely engraving, including USMC, showing that it was originally a U S Marine Corps horn. As a retired Navy musician, I have a lot of Marine musician friends - they do some fabulous work, and it was fun when we got to work together. Unfortunately, we don’t know how this horn plays because it’s missing its main tuning slide, but we do...

What's on My Bench? 1967 Getzen Eterna Severinson Model Trumpet

Today’s horn may not be much to look at, but it sure is an awesome player! This is a 1967 Getzen Eterna Severinson Model, and if you’re a trumpet player, you probably know a bunch of people that really love these horns.  They are light and responsive, with those fast Getzen valves that survive so well over the years; this is a great horn for Jazz and Commercial playing. This horn has a lot of wear to the lacquer finish, but it’s in great shape otherwise and has lots of years of playing left in it. Love it as is, get...

What’s on My Bench? Holton H279 French Horn

As you have seen, we have gotten lots of new/demo Conn-Selmer French horns in the last few months, but I still have plenty of nice used ones on my shelf to go through! This one is a nice Holton H279 - it’s seen some action in its time, but is still pretty solid and will serve you well. It badly needed a cleaning, and had neon green corrosion on its rotors, but now it smells like clean dishes and is ready to play! I did some minor dent removal on the bell flare as well, and the screw bell works...

Things We Find in Cases: Buffet Valve Oil!

Today’s finds are pretty awesome, from the case of an old Reynolds cornet that you’ll see soon. I bet you never knew Buffet sold valve oil, did you?? Well, it’s because they actually also made trumpets for a short time! I actually have one that I found recently, and before you ask - no, it is NOT for sale! They are rare enough that I thought you all might like to see it, though! There’s not a lot of info out there on these horns, but this one sure is a nice player! Heavy horn with a big wide grip,...
